Safety is Our Priority

Electricity, for the most part, makes this possible. But it's still dangerous. Learn more how United Electric helps educate the public on the dangers of electricity.

A FUSE BLOWS DURING THE DEMO

Information

United Electric is aware of the issues involving our Clarion, Elk, Forest and Jefferson County members. During the last few months, our members in these areas have experienced an unusual number of blinks, sometimes multiple times per day. Our engineering and operations departments have been working diligently to mitigate these issues. Most of the blinking in the last several month stems from our transmission supplier’s side (Penelec-A First Energy Company). United Electric is a distribution cooperative, which means we distribute electricity to our members’ homes and businesses. However, to get to our substations (Pinebrook, Sigel and Howe), the electricity must first be transmitted via high-voltage transmission lines through transmission substations. This is part of the transportation system of electricity across the nation and substations function as pit stops along the route. More than once, you may have called our office during your power outage or repeated blinks to hear us say that we are having a power supply issue. A resolution is developing, and we have been working together with First Energy, as well as our statewide organization. Thank you for your continued patience while we move forward towards a resolution together. For more information, please call our office: 888-581-8969.

Capital Credits

United Electric operates on a nonprofit basis, charging enough for electricity and services to cover operating costs. Net margins left over at the close of business year are credited to members according to the amount of business each member did with the Cooperative.office building
